About forgotten passwords and old email addresses
Some few weeks ago, I’ve modified the login page a bit. Since then there is a really big, red blinking button named “Get a new password here!”. Also since then, when entering wrong credentials in the login form, the error message gives very detailed information on what to do when you have forgotten your password or if you have an old, no more working email address assigned to your account.
The strange thing is, I still get many emails each day with a subject like “I’ve forgotten my password, what to do?” and I really, really wonder how someone can still oversee this really big, red blinking button or the instructions when entering wrong data.
Today in the morning I received the following email:
Subject: I forgot my password
I want to switch to ‘cayxxxxx#@fenpxxxxxxxud3WxxxxN/UxxxxYA’
That was the whole content of that email.
Dear friends… please, PLEASE never send me any passwords!
It may happen that an email provider will stop his service. Or that an own domain gets deleted. This may cause that you can not reset your password, because you’ll not receive the email with the reset token. In this case, please simply write an email to email@example.com or use the contact form for requesting the change of your email address. Please remember to submit the old, not working email address that actually is assigned to your account and also the new email address that should replace the old one. Only this way I am able to verify that an account belongs to you and change your email address.
